Just before the Thanksgiving holidays this year, we began homeschooling Finn. We do not have a formal curriculum,
we prefer to use the "unschooling" method of teaching. It seems to fit our lifestyle, as well as, Finn's personality.
We are a very spontaneous family and tend to "go with the flow." I must admit, it has taken us a while to "deschool."
We are learning more and more every day. However, unschooling is a BLAST!!!
Robert is Finn's primary teacher, I gather most of the learning materials and fill in the gaps when needed. Finn
loves the virtual school we use as his primary curriculum! We also take lots of virtual field trips, belong to a couple
of homeschool groups to go on adventures with, and have started a "road" scholar program with him for road trips/driving.
Learning happens all day, every day, even though most of the time it happens in our pajamas!!! The world/universe is
our classroom. How cool is that?
For Christmas, Santa brought our little Thomas Edison more science experiments; mostly those that explode!
We can now look forward to lots of interesting experimenting! Of course, unlike Thomas Edison's mother, I do not
have a basement in which he can move his laboratory! Looks like a remodel may be in our future! LOL!
Finn and Robert wrapped up the school year already (over 1 month early). They will still work on a few science
projects, handwriting and reading throughout the summer. Finn did an awesome job this year, completing 3rd grade science
and social studies, 2nd grade math and 1st grade language arts! He maintained straight A's in all subjects. He
continues to amaze me every day and I am fortunate to have him as my child! :)
